Locations: Nehru Nagar, Lawley Road, Athipalayam Pirivu & Kovai Pudur Pirivu, Coimbatore
Campaign Overview
Coimbatore City Traffic Police and UYIR jointly conducted a Helmet Awareness Campaign across four key locations in Coimbatore to promote helmet usage, responsible road behaviour, and greater awareness of the consequences of road accidents.
The campaign was organised as directed by Thiru. N. Kannan, I.P.S., Commissioner of Police, and conducted under the supervision of Thiru. Maheswaran, I.P.S., Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
UYIR officials, UYIR Club mentors, and student volunteers worked alongside the Police to engage two-wheeler riders through direct counselling and Road Safety awareness sessions.
Four Locations. One Common Goal: Safer Roads.
The campaign was conducted simultaneously across four important locations:
| Location | UYIR Club | Public Reached |
|---|---|---|
| Nehru Nagar, Kalapatti | Dr. NGP Arts and Science College | 2,100 |
| Lawley Road | Ranganathar Institute of Engineering and Technology | 1,800 |
| Athipalayam Pirivu | PPG College of Arts and Science | 1,400 |
| Kovai Pudur Pirivu | Sri Krishna Arts and Science College | 2,200 |
Total Reported Public Reach: 7,900
220 Two-Wheeler Riders Counselled
As part of the campaign, 220 road users were counselled by UYIR Club volunteers on the importance of wearing helmets and following safe riding practices.
The counselling sessions focused on:
- Importance of wearing a helmet on every ride
- Correct and responsible helmet usage
- Risks associated with riding without a helmet
- Consequences of road accidents on individuals and families
- Responsible behaviour towards fellow road users
- The wider social and economic impact of road accidents
The objective was not simply to enforce a rule, but to encourage riders to understand why helmet use can save lives.
UYIR Club Volunteers in Action
Around 60 UYIR volunteers and UYIR Club mentors supported the campaign across the four locations.
The participating UYIR Clubs brought together students, mentors, and volunteers to directly engage with road users and support the Police in creating greater public awareness.

Beyond Helmet Awareness
The campaign highlighted an important message:
Road Safety is more than following a rule.
A helmet is one of the simplest and most effective safety measures available to two-wheeler riders. Through direct public interaction, UYIR volunteers encouraged riders to look beyond compliance and recognise their responsibility towards themselves, their families, and other road users.
The sessions also highlighted how road accidents can affect:
Individuals → Families → Communities → Society → Economy
A Collaborative Road Safety Effort
The campaign demonstrated the value of collaboration between Traffic Police, UYIR, UYIR Clubs, educational institutions, mentors, and student volunteers. UYIR sincerely acknowledges the support of the Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police – Traffic, Additional Deputy Commissioner – Traffic Planning, Assistant Commissioners of Traffic East & West, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and the Police team in conducting the campaign. Our gratitude also goes to the college managements, principals, UYIR Club mentors, coordinators, and volunteers whose dedicated participation helped take the Road Safety message directly to the public.
