Installation of 11 New signals at points identified by the Police Department based on Traffic Density and Accident probability.

Installation and Function of New Signals

Sathy Road - Saravanampatti Junction

Thadagam Road – Paal Company Junction

• Coordinated with National and State Highways Department, City Municipal Corporation officials and TANGEDCO for getting Electricity connection for all the New 11 Signals erected by the UYIR Trust.
• Since the Coimbatore City Traffic Police was managed under 15 Police Stations under the Jurisdictions of under 2 Assistant Commissioners of Police as East and West, UYIR had provided exclusive servers to each of these Assistant Commissioner’s Office for dynamic uploading of real time traffic violations from the 20 signals mounted with ANPR and Static Cameras. By this, there was a significant impact on Road Safety. 53% of the accident deaths have been reduced and 45% of the accidents had declined in the City of Coimbatore, comparing to last year.

Installation of ANPR Cameras in 20 Traffic Signals

• Installation of ANPR and Static Cameras mounted in 20 Signals for capturing Real – Time Traffic Violations and the same is dynamically uploaded to the National Informatics Centre portal and from there it is transmitted to the violating vehicle’s RC Book through the National Road Transport Authority.
• To reduce the traffic accidents and to monitor the traffic violation in the interior roads of the city , Uyir donated the highly equipped 70 WiFI and standalone body Cameras to the Police department with presence of The Commissioner of Police and has donated the 128 barricades and 2 Police Booth

• UYIR Trust is a Member of the District Road Safety Committee, chaired by the District Collector comprising of Senior Bureaucrats from the District Administration representing, Electricity Board, Highways, Police, Revenue, Fire and Forest, who are all directly or indirectly connected to Road Safety. Exclusively UYIR Traffic Control group, where we get malfunction reports of specific signals.
• UYIR is planning to introduce adaptive traffic signalling using Artificial Intelligence, where by the Signal Lights are activated depending on the relative Traffic Density at each side of any junction, rather than being a fixed timer based.
• UYIR has adopted all the 62 Traffic Signals in Coimbatore City for maintenance under the Corporate Sponsorship Model.
• Justice D.M.Sapre, National Chairman of Road Safety, visited Coimbatore to study the initiatives and works carried out by UYIR Trust. After visiting the Traffic Control Room and observing a Real Time demonstration of the deployment of ANPR cameras for Traffic Violations and the spontaneous Challan Generation and uploading them to the respective RC books of the violator, he appreciated the efforts of UYIR and complimented that Coimbatore was way ahead of 10 other cities he had visited in the last two weeks.

Industrial vertical has played a vital role to take up to the next level of milestone to creation and installation the electro mechanical requirement in the city.

This vertical has closely worked city Police (Traffic) department to assess the requirements and identify the location in all the arterial roads
