UYIR successfully conducted a Night Drive Safety Awareness Campaign at Oppanakara Street, Coimbatore, focusing on the safe and responsible use of high and low beam headlights during night travel. The initiative was carried out in association with Coimbatore City Police, Honda and Rotaract Coimbatore City, bringing together road safety stakeholders and community volunteers to promote safer night-time driving practices.

Promoting Responsible Headlight Usage

The campaign engaged with both two-wheeler and four-wheeler riders, creating awareness about the risks associated with the improper use of high-beam headlights.

Excessive or inappropriate use of high beams can create glare for oncoming road users, reduce visibility and make it difficult for other motorists to respond safely, particularly on roads with significant night-time traffic.

Through direct public interaction and awareness messaging, motorists were encouraged to:

• Use high-beam headlights responsibly.
• Switch from high beam to low beam when approaching oncoming vehicles.
• Avoid causing unnecessary glare to other road users.
• Maintain better visibility and awareness while driving at night.
• Prioritise the safety of pedestrians, two-wheeler riders and other motorists.

A Shared Responsibility for Safer Roads

The campaign reinforced the message that responsible driving is not only about protecting yourself, but also about considering the safety and visibility of everyone sharing the road. UYIR continues to work alongside Coimbatore City Police, industry partners, Rotaract clubs, educational institutions and community stakeholders to promote responsible road behaviour and build a safer road environment across Coimbatore. Small changes in driving behaviour can make a significant difference on the road.
